The RSPB youth publications

We produce a full youth membership offering that moves with the times – and it’s got a brand-new look

Our brief

The RSPB is one of the UK’s foremost wildlife charities, recognised by a broad demographic of nature lovers. We partner with the RSPB to deliver a suite of print publications for youth members, providing content that builds a passion for nature while maintaining high educational value. The RSPB publications take members on a consistent supporter experience journey.

Our solution

We take on the planning, commissioning, writing, design and publication of the RSPB youth member magazines. These are Wild Times (0–7s), Wild Explorer (8–12s) and Wingbeat (13+). Working with the RSPB we monitor the youth market and bring our expertise to create content that is always evolving and improving.

Each magazine is tailored for its audience, building connections to nature at a young age before beginning to cultivate activism for the planet. Our editorial approach presents complex conservation issues for a range of audiences, while building a lasting passion for the natural world with hands-on craft projects and outdoor learning. Each magazine also closely follows national curriculum requirements, signposting educational value for parents.

In Wingbeat magazine we work in partnership with the RSPB’s Youth Council, and other young influencers in the conservation sector, creating editorial content that offers a voice to the 16–25 age group.

The results

“In my 20-plus years of working with the publishing industry, OM are far and away the most professional, creative and approachable client-publishing team I’ve collaborated with. The publications we produce together are market-leaders, which time and again win praise from across the charity sector, and our products are considered benchmarks for the rest of our organisation to look to. The whole process of magazine creation is enjoyable and inspiring from start to finish, and we always end up with an exciting and engaging product we can be loudly proud of. They should be rightly pleased that children across the country are energised to protect the planet because of their hard work.”
